Pupapalooza

As summer is starting to show it's face around these parts, the land is finally starting to look really green and lovely. Flowers (read: weeds) have been coming up and looking beautiful, and I have kept putting off taking photos of them. Today I finally decided to just go out and do it, as the lighting was pretty good and I don't want the flowers to die if I wait too long. I managed to capture some good shots despite Allie, Penny, Buzz, and Travis being all over me. Here are my favorites:

Travis (left, with fused jaw) and Pepper (blind) playing, with Shiloh (fat, fat, fat) in the background.

Still friends! Travis likes to play and dominate other dogs, despite the fact that he doesn't have any useable teeth. But I've never seen these two play together because Pepper usually doesn't like to be annoyed.

Penny (blind) looking for love. She likes to lean against you while being petted, but since she is close to 100 pounds, it gives a whole new meaning to the phrase "love hurts."

Libby (forever fat). She likes to sit in the shade of the plucky trees growing in the yard. And of, course, when she's not snoozing, she likes to eat poop. Ick.

And, because this is his blog after all, here's Cody taking a well-earned snooze.

Diver

Cody has recently discovered water. Not the kind that he can just drink, but the kind that he can drink and swim and play in. When we go to the dog park, Cody learned that he could get into the river and splash about. He gets a big kick out of it, and loves to chase his ball when it gets thrown in with him. It makes me a little nervous because the current is very strong and I'm afraid that he'll get too far out and be swept away. I even had a nightmare about this last night which was none too pleasant. Thankfully, he stays really close to the shore.

However, there is a negative side to all this agua fun. I discivered this last Monday when Cody was playing with a dog named Fungus (yes...Fungus). They were chasing each other up and down the hill and into the water. Suddenly, when they were back on land, Fungus rolled Cody. Cody was soaked and so became extremely dirty.

Thankfully, Cody is very dirt resistant, especially for a white dog. By the time I was ready to go home, Cody had somehow gotten rid of all of this filth (probably by wiping it all over the trunk of my car...) and was clean and beautiful again and ready to enjoy the ride in his usual style. But I do think he'll need a bath soon, he's starting to get a bit dingy.

Cats gone wild, round 2

Tuesday, May 09, 2006

I had a great time Saturday night not having a life with Ed by holding a Star Wars marathon. There was a brief lull in the nerdiness when Bernice, the amazing cat, entertained us. Whenever someone put a blanket over her, she would play under it. I decided to capture it on video, and Bernice did...not a whole lot. It's dark, and kind of boring, and has no sound, but here the masterpiece is.

And, just so this post is not a complete loss, here's a clear view of the fabulous feline diva.

Cats gone wild

Recently there was a slight mouse infestation in my house. It seems to have moved out and/or died, but while it was still around I brought in some barn cats to help with the problem. But now I have a new infestation -- a cat infestation! Cody doesn't mind them as long as they stay outside...but they're quite dedicated to getting in.

Breaking news from the dish -- er, desk -- of Cody.

There has been an...interesting new development in the territory lately. It's quite an annoyance, actually. I'm an easy going guy and all, but a dog's got to draw the line somewhere. And I'm drawing it now -- at cats.

That's right. Cats. You'd think that people would have realized by now that cats are in fact the incarnation of pure evil. But, no...instead people think that the villainous felines are "cute" and "good company."

And now, they're here. In my house. It's more than this canine can bear. Sure there's a mouse -- or twenty -- in the house. I could take care of them! But my horrible human-servant decided that cats -- cats!! -- could take care of the infestation better than me. And, to add insult to injury, she lets the vermin sleep on my bed! Well, poo.
